DANS LA RUE | THE STORY OF
“The fashion creations of Dans La Rue was created during my holiday trips between 2019 to early 2020. All styles were made on-the-go, either on the train, on the flight, outside by the bar, or in a hotel room. When exploring a place, I prefer walking to taking transportations, especially on busy streets where there are a lot of people passing by all the time. I like streets because they are vivid and intricate. Every time I felt inspired during my travels, I took out my iPad and drew fashion sketches, which later turned into the Dans La Rue collection.”
“I illustrated these two sketches when I was waiting for my train to Bruges at Gare du Nord in Paris in summer 2019. Gare du Nord is one of my favourite places in Paris, despite stealing and pickpocketing, because I could see different people that are not just French, but also people of other nationalities.“
“I have no idea how many drawings I’ve made for Dans la Rue. These were some sketches I quickly done in a nightclub in London while people dancing around. I didn’t have a pen or paper with me that night, so I had to stole a pen from the reception desk and then drew on the tissue paper.”

“These 4 sketches were done outside by a bar in the city centre of Amsterdam (near red light district). One thing I like the most in Amsterdam is those bricks and tiles on the buildings and roofs. Sometimes, I could be inspired by those buildings instead of people on the streets. The first style (the black one) was inspired by one of the girls working in the bar.”

“Redlight District in Amsterdam oddly reminds me of something futuristic. In my eyes, those red lights are like lightsabers that glitter around those prostitutes behind the glass, which seems very satisfying to me. It later became the main inspiration to this design.”
“I think I want to re-define the meaning of street fashion with Dans la Rue. For me, street fashion means wearable fashion as opposed to hyped or over-branded fashion that is made for the temporary. Instead, it could be long-lasting and timeless.
These designs were created while I was on the train back to London from Paris in early 2020”
“Dans la Rue was conceived during my trips to some of my favourite places in Europe, and a big part of the inspiration actually came from these places, which has nothing to do with fashion. I always do landscape illustrations on my iPad while travelling, which gets me inspired to turn what I see into what I feel, and then create styles from there. Sometimes, these feelings are unexplainable, although I cannot seize it, I know it is there.”
